I'm Katrina Wheeler, sole owner and contributor for KOR3. After over 20 years in different roles within corporate organisations I've decided it's time to freelance.
Although, Project Management, Marketing and Events may seem like a lot to focus on, in my experience the skills required are similar. There is the overarching need to set objectives, create a strategy to achieve those objectives, implement the strategy using specific tactics and measure performance. The tactics themselves may differ but the theories and practices are the same.
I started my career in events and have over 15 years experience in the events industry, having worked in a venue, for a supplier and finally for an inhouse events team at Gartner, where I worked for 11 years. I have delivered global corporate events including Gartner's flagship event for over 15,000 delegates and 100 sponsors.
On leaving events I went to work at Gatwick Airport as a Development and Change Manager. During my time at the airport I managed multiple projects across retail, property and car parking, including delivering a large decked car park.
Upon leaving Gatwick I joined VMware as a fixed term contractor (FTC) in the Events Marketing team, I then went on to another FTC with the UK&I field marketing team and finally a permanent role as Senior Marketing Manager in the EMEA Solution Marketing team. Whilst at VMware I gained knowledge across multiple facets of marketing, bringing a highly matrix team together to ensure an integrated marketing approach, sharing best practice and delivering on KPIs.
Gatwick approached KOR3 to take on a fixed term contract in order to deliver multiple projects and products in a 6 month period.
Gatwick previously ran a Premium Passport Control, however this was closed during the pandemic.
KOR3 has been responsible for relaunching the product, leading contract negotiations with the home office, managing internal resources, making the product live on the website and overseeing reporting.
Over and above the initial brief KOR3 is working on behalf of the airport to launch this as an e-gate product, to deliver additional capacity and revenue. To further drive revenue there are discussions with multiple airlines to charge them to enable their premium passengers to use the product.
KOR3 has managed the launch of the new Electrical Vehicle charging product. This is where customers who have an EV vehicle and book valet parking are now able to get their vehicle charged by Gatwick, to be charged for their return.
KOR3 has been responsible for ensuring that the charging facilities are functional, putting process in place to ensure vehicles are charged on return and launching the product on the website.
